Getting Started with Microgreens at Home
Learn the basics of growing microgreens at home with our simple step-by-step guide for beginners.

Microgreens are young vegetable greens harvested 7-14 days after germination. They're packed with nutrients, often containing up to 40 times more vitamins and antioxidants than their mature counterparts.
What You'll Need
To get started growing microgreens at home, you'll need just a few basic supplies:
- Seeds: Broccoli, radish, pea, or sunflower microgreens are perfect for beginners
- Growing tray or container: Any shallow container with drainage holes works
- Growing medium: Organic potting soil or hemp growing mats
- Water spray bottle: For gentle watering
- Location: A warm spot with good natural light or grow lights
Step-by-Step Growing Guide
Step 1: Soak your seeds if recommended for that variety (check seed packet instructions).
Step 2: Fill your tray with growing medium and moisten it evenly.
Step 3: Spread seeds evenly over the surface - aim for good coverage without overcrowding.
Step 4: Mist with water and cover with another tray or plastic wrap for the first 2-3 days to create humidity.
Step 5: Once sprouts appear, remove the cover and expose to light. Continue misting daily.
Step 6: Harvest when the first true leaves appear, usually 7-14 days after planting. Cut just above the soil line with clean scissors.
Tips for Success
Keep your microgreens in a location that receives indirect sunlight or use a grow light for 12-16 hours per day. Water gently from below if possible, or use a spray bottle to avoid disturbing the delicate plants. Most microgreens prefer temperatures between 18-24°C.
